The Archdiocese of Adelaide held its first Diocesan Youth Assembly (DYA) in 1985. One of the major outcomes of that first youth assembly was the recommendation for the establishment of a Diocesan Youth Office. This later became known as the Catholic Office for Youth and Young Adults.
This year we are reviving the DYA so that young people have a significant a part of the the Diocesan Assembly in September, and re-engage with the Plenary Council in October.
Who is running the DYA?
The DYA is being organised by the Catholic Office for Youth and Young Adults and the Council for Ministry for Young People in coordination with the Diocesan Assembly.
Getting Involved
The agenda and discussion topics for the DYA will be developed from the input of young people into the consultations for the Diocesan Assembly. Young people may give input directly via the online form or by participating in one of the Youth Consultation Sessions.
Parishes, schools, communities and other organisations will receive an invitation to nominate young people to be participants in the DYA. Any young person who is interested in participating in the DYA may self-nominate.
What will the DYA accomplish?
The purpose of the DYA is for young people to gather together to discuss issues that matter to them and make recommendations for ways that they, their faith communities and the Archdiocese of Adelaide can respond to needs and challenges facing young people and our local church.
Recommendations from the DYA will be presented to:
The Diocesan Assembly participants
New Diocesan Pastoral Council
Catholic Office for Youth and Young Adults & Council for Ministry for Young People
The recommendations will also be made public which allows others to take up the responsibility of responding in their local communities.
The DYA will also choose from the participants, representatives to be delegates to the Diocesan Assembly in September.
